If you’ve got more than 1 week in Turkey, there are plenty of other historical sites and beautiful parts of the country to discover. From Cappadocia, you can continue driving for 7 hours to the amazing site of Göbekli Tepe. You can also fly via Istanbul within 5 hours, but this is a great stop on a Turkey road trip. Spend your day hiking through the valley to reach the pretty waterfall or swim around the coast to the cave. The trails are well marked and your hotel staff give you basic directions.
The first time I landed here, I felt like I had walked straight into a history book, a food festival, and a National Geographic documentary—all at once. It’s the perfect mix of cuisine, history, relaxation, and adventure for 2 weeks in Turkey. Drive 2.5 hours to Selçuk, a quieter, more relaxed vibe with attractions like Grotto of the Seven Sleepers and Temple of Artemis. Drive 2.5 hours along the Turquoise Coast to Bodrum, which combines the best of laid-back coastal living with a touch of luxury. And you’ll also need to consider tighter seating arrangements, luggage situation and having to find your way to/from the bus stop. Waikiki in Hawaii came in a close second, with a score of 79.8 out of 100.

This old trade route town is famous for its old town, replete with cobblestone alleyways crammed with finely restored timber and red-tile roofed Ottoman mansions. When you’re finished with the sand, it’s only a short hop to your last stop at Antalya, with its historic old town district; beaches; and plentiful day trip options to big-hitter Roman sites such as Aspendos, Perge, and Side.
Regardless, it’s best to be prepared by having enough cash before leaving the cities. Hop on a gulet (a handcrafted wooden boat) for a day of swimming, sunbathing and cruising over the ancient sunken city of Kekova, where powerful civilizations like the Romans and Byzantines flourished. Look out for remnants of walls, staircases, tombs and boathouses as you float by. This iconic Turkish snack of cheese, meat and veggies stuffed in flatbread is a budget-friendly bite that will satisfy everyone. Cheese and spinach are the most famous fillings, but you’ll find all sorts of combos as you travel around. The northern section of the Aegean coast is steeped in history, some ancient, some recent and raw.
Head To Göreme, Check-in At The Cave Hotel
When you arrive in Denzili by flight, it is very easy to reach Pamukkale because there are shuttles from the airport after every flight. Turkey was the center of the Byzantine Empire, and the Gumusler Monastery is a cave monastery that reflects this history. It is carved out of a large rock and is considered one of the best-preserved in the region.
A two-hour drive along scenic Turkish Riviera roads brings you to Kaş, a charming little town that’s big on character. On my one month trip in Turkey, I did a 2-week road trip in the Turkish coast from Antalya to Izmir and had the best time. Down on the coast, the beaches are the main attraction, though activities such as hiking, sailing, kayaking, and paragliding offer plentiful opportunities to get off the sand.
